The following information will be helpful to me as I struggle through my Masters program.
Information Literacy Standards
  1. The information literate student determines the nature and extent of the information needed.
  2. The information literate student accesses needed information effectively and efficiently.
  3. The information literate student evaluates information and its sources critically and incorporates selected information into his or her knowledge base and value system.
  4. The information literate student, individually or as a member of a group, uses information effectively to accomplish a specific purpose.
  5. The information literate student understands many of the economic, legal, and social issues surrounding the use of information and accesses and uses information ethically and legally.

Content Standards
This site lists all the Ca standards for students to learn in each class and subject. When developing lessons and collaborating with teachers I will have to sync my lesson with what teachers are required to teach in ca.

Inquiry Process

Connect
Wonder
Investigate
Construct
Express
Reflect
Connect to self, previous knowledge
Gain background knowledge to set context for new learning

Observe, experience
Develop Qtions
Make predications, hypotheses
Find and evaluate info to answer questions, tests hypotheses
Think about info to illuminate new Qtions and hypotheses
Construct new understanding connected to previous knowledge
Draw conclusions about Qtions and hypotheses
Express new ideas to share learning with others
Apply understandings to new context, new situations
Reflect on own process of learning and on new understandings gained from inquiry
Ask new Qtions

Backwards Design
One starts with the end - the desired results (goals or standards) - and then derives the curriculum from the evidence of learning (performances) called for by the standard and the teaching needed to equip students to perform' (Wiggins and McTighe, 2000, page 8)
  1. What is worthy and requiring of understanding?
  2. What is evidence of understanding?
  3. What learning experiences and teaching promote understanding, interest and excellence?

The Big6™ Skills
The Big6 is a process model of how teachers build a unit. These are the elements I need to consider when creating a unit.
1. Task Definition
  1. Define the information problem
  2. Identify information needed
2. Information Seeking Strategies
  1. Determine all possible sources
  2. Select the best sources
3. Location and Access
  1. Locate sources (intellectually and physically)
  2. Find information within sources
4. Use of Information
  1. Engage (e.g., read, hear, view, touch)
  2. Extract relevant information
5. Synthesis
  1. Organize from multiple sources
  2. Present the information
6. Evaluation
  1. Judge the product (effectiveness)
  2. Judge the process (efficiency)
